Many of us are so focused on changing our whole diet that we fail to focus on the small things that are still keeping us unhealthy. Like many others, I love things that taste good but are not good for me. However, I am taking it one step at a time as I try to regain control of my health. Sometimes it’s the little things that we need to change that can make a world of difference in our health and well-being. Here are a few nutritious foods I have added to my diet, replacing items that are much more unhealthy. Although these are subtle dietary changes, it’s a step in the right direction of consuming food that’s slightly healthier than what I’ve consumed for years.
Oleico Safflower Oil
One thing that I’ve always tried to be careful with is the oil I use to cook things with. I have avoided oils over the years that harden once they cool because I worry about such oils clogging my arteries. However, I’m even more concerned about the liquid oils on the market now that I’m getting much older. My new favorite oils to cook with now are olive oil and safflower oil. Although both are extremely expensive, I find myself using them less for that reason, which is actually good for my health. If I have to use oil, I’d rather it be something that is less toxic.
Kerrygold Pure Irish Butter
Another thing I used to consume mindlessly is margarine. I would lather this on pancakes and use it with so many dishes. As with oils that harden as they cool, I try to avoid consuming this item. When I do, I try to use real butter instead of margarine. Whether to use margarine or butter is still up for debate in most medical circles. I prefer butter, but when I use it, I consume less.
Spring Tree Pure Maple Syrup
One more final item I’ve replaced is corn syrup-based syrups and have opted for real maple syrup. This one was a tough transition not only because it’s pricier, but the flavor is much different than popular commercial syrups on the market. As with oils and butter, I consume less syrup, primarily because this item costs a lot, and I don’t have to eat as much to satisfy my cravings. Nutritious foods tend to nourish your body more and help you curb mindless eating.
If you want to get on the road to better health, start with subtle changes in items you consume the most, like these from my affiliate partner Amazon. The oils and syrups you’re consuming may be what’s keeping stubborn fat in your body.
